Shield finds and redacts sensitive values in your text on your own device. The text you check, the values Shield finds and the protected result are never sent to us or anyone else. We do not collect, sell or share them.
Shield is a product of Seatbase. This page explains how Shield handles data in plain language. The Seatbase privacy policy is the binding document: it names the data controller, explains your rights and how to contact us.
The browser extension
The extension collects no personal data and has no analytics or tracking. It touches a page only when you choose "Protect with Shield", and detection runs inside the extension.
It keeps only these on your device:
- Names you add to protect, until you remove them.
- Your preferred position for the Shield icon.
- Text in the popup you have not protected yet, in memory until you protect it or restart the browser.
- Whether you hid the Shield icon, in memory until you restart the browser.
What each permission is for:
- Context menu
- Adds "Protect with Shield" when you right-click selected text or a text field.
- Active tab
- Lets Shield read and replace text on the current page, only after you click "Protect with Shield".
- Scripting
- Runs the small script that reads the text you chose, writes the protected version back and shows the Shield icon, only after your click.
- Storage
- Keeps the names you add and your icon position on your device, and an unprotected popup draft in memory.
- Clipboard write
- Copies the protected text when it comes from a part of the page you cannot edit.
This website
The editor on this site works the same way: your text is checked in your browser and never uploaded.
Your browser keeps:
- Names you add to protect, in local storage until you remove them.
- Text you have not protected yet, in this tab until you protect it or close the tab.
- Your cookie choice.
If you accept analytics cookies, the site loads Google Analytics. It records which pages you visit and which buttons you use, such as Protect or Copy. It never receives your text, the values found, names you add or how many values were found. Without your consent, Google Analytics is not loaded. You can change your choice under Cookie settings at the bottom of any page.
Like any website, this site is delivered by a hosting provider that processes your IP address to serve it.
When you contact Alesia
If you enter your email to try Alesia, Shield sends nothing itself: it opens getalesia.com with your email filled in. What happens there is covered by the Seatbase privacy policy.
Changes
If Shield starts handling data differently, we will update this page and the date at the top.
